Did you know that 1.4 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year? Maybe you know someone who has cancer or is receiving treatment a friend, relative or a coworker. And its possible they travel to central Arkansas where a number of the nations premier cancer treatment facilities are located. Being far away from the comforts of home during this challenging time can be both frightening and frustrating. Thats why the 20th Century Clubs Lodge was founded to make a difference in the lives of patients by giving hope away from home.
In a typical year, the 20th Century Clubs Lodge provides about 1,500 nights of no-cost housing to more than 240 patients. Our Lodge is more than a place to stay it is a caring, compassionate environment that builds a bridge of hope over a chasm of worry. We are hope away from home for our patients.
A NEW LODGE
Today, as the need grows, The 20th Century Club has a dream to build a new permanent Lodge for the patients we serve. Fulfilling this dream will take a great deal of teamwork from members, volunteers, patrons, corporate sponsors and individual donors. Thats why we are asking you to join us in building Hope Away From Home.
Having met and exceeded our Capital Campaign goal of 3 Million dollars, it is now time to begin building the new 18,000 square foot lodge that will provide no-cost housing to cancer patients while they are undergoing treatment in Little Rock. We have contracted with the architectural firm of Williams & Dean Associated Architects and the construction company PDC Contractors for the project. The Lodge is expected to be completed by the spring of 2011!
The groundbreaking celebration for the new 20th Century Clubs Lodge, held on April 29th, 2010, marked the start of construction of the facility at the corner of Cedar and Maryland in Little Rock, Arkansas! We want to thank Mayor Mark Stodola for joining us, and sharing in our enthusiasm for our mission--to house cancer patients in need. We also want to thank one of our former lodge guests, Mr. Bill Spencer, for so poignantly reminding us of the hope that a simple room can provide in a time of need. While the 20th Century Club is not affiliated with any one cancer treatment center, we recognize and consider all of the medical facilities in the area our partners for we house patients who receive treatment at all of them. These facilities and centers include: UAMS, Baptist Health System, CARTI, St. Vincent Health System, Radiology Associates, PA, Arkansas Urology, PA, Radiation Oncology, PA, and Little Rock Hematology Oncology Associates.

Building and operating a new lodge will take a great deal of teamwork from members, volunteers, patrons, corporate sponsors and individual donors. And, the 20th Century Club is proud to say that more than 98% of the funds raised go directly to support its mission of providing no-cost lodging, support and education for cancer patients undergoing treatment in Little Rock.

ANGELS OF HOPE (2009 - 2010)
2009-2010 ANGELS OF HOPE
We are pleased to introduce the 2009-2010 class of the Angels of Hope program (pictured above). The second year of this new mentoring program will come to a close with the formal presentation of 10 young ladies at the Hope Ball 2010. The Angels completed 25 hours of community service in serving our patients as well as volunteering at local hospitals in the area of cancer treatment. These amazing young ladies have participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, helped with the CARTI fundraiser Festival of Trees, volunteered at either Baptist Health or the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and--most importantly--have shared dinners with the patients we house during their cancer treatments.
They were given the opportunity to dedicate their service to a loved one who has been affected by cancer. The Angels will be treated to a VIP dinner the night of the Ball, presented with their fathers in the ballroom, then driven home in a private limousine bus reserved exclusively for them
A plaque bearing the Angels names will be displayed in a prominent area of our new 20th Century Club Lodge when completed.
The program is available to a limited number of girls entering their junior or senior year of high school. Each girl must be sponsored by a 20th Century Club member. To receive an invitation for an application for next year (2010-2011), or if you know of a girl who might be interested, please contact Deena Bailey deenab152@sbcglobal.net.
